A Word from DS Teresa – 09/04/2020

2020 Charge Conference information

Grace and peace to you!

This message is to share a brief word regarding Charge Conference season this year. Over the last several weeks I have been in conversation with Bishop Schnase and other district superintendents both here in the Rio Texas Conference and across the jurisdiction regarding Charge Conferences. By Book of Discipline there is important business to conduct; and, I also realize that clergy and many lay staff and church volunteers are carrying additional work loads and stress during this time of Covid-19.

My decision is grounded in a desire to take care of necessary church business and do all I can to enable clergy to have some choice with regard to planning for the conference. And so, I am asking lead pastors to choose one of the three options below.  Please let us know your choice no later than September 30, 2020.   Email or call Jill Barre at jill@umcad.org or 512-444-1983 ext 101.

  1. Participate in a Group Charge/Church Conference by Zoom with other churches to be held on Sunday, November 15th from 4PM – 6PM
  2. Participate in a Group Charge/Church Conference by Zoom with other churches to be held on Sunday, December 6th from 4PM – 6PM.
  3. Contact me (twelborn@umcad.org) to schedule an Individual Charge/Church Conference if there is need due to significant agenda items specific to your congregation.

I want to be as flexible and available as possible, but in general am looking to Charge Conferences concluding by early December. I anticipate individual Charge Conferences to also be conducted by zoom, but there may be some exceptions depending on factors such as agenda items, local health guidelines, and the number of people participating.

Conferences will follow the consent agenda used in recent years. The agenda and other necessary forms to complete will be available on the district website – www.capitaldistrictumc.org under the “Resources” tab.

Many thanks for your attention to this.  Additional information can be found on the “Guidelines and Common Questions” document here.

Stay encouraged!
